Senodia Unveils China's First Homegrown MEMS-based Chips

Chinese fabless MEMS-based chipmaker Senodia recently announced that the company has developed a China's homegrown chip based on MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical System) technology with own patents and process technologies, the Xinhua News reported on December 7. Being the first of its kind in China, the chip - to be used for mobile phone, MP3/MP4 player, PDA (Personal Digital Assistant), DSC (Digital Still Camera), game consoles, GPS (Global Positioning System), and automobiles products - is projected to begin mass production in 2010 and hit the market in 2012, according to the same source. Aside from Senodia, US-based Invensense and Europe-based STMicroelectronics also specialize in researching and developing MEMS-based chips.
